At Fresno Carpet Care, my goal is to provide you with the best cleaning results possible and make the entire process straightforward and hassle-free. A little preparation and good communication go a long way toward accomplishing that.
Please take a few minutes to review the information below before your appointment so you know what to expect, how I clean, and how you can help me get the best possible results for your carpet.
Please Point Out Anything That Concerns You
Communication is extremely important.
Before I begin, please show me any stains, pet areas, odors, traffic lanes or other areas that are especially important to you.
I cannot always determine the history of a spot simply by looking at it. If you know that something is coffee, grease, pet urine, paint, medication, a cleaning product, food, drink or another substance, please tell me. That information can help me choose the most appropriate treatment.
Likewise, if you have a particular expectation, please communicate it to me. If there is an area that is especially important to you or something you expect to be addressed as part of the cleaning, I would much rather discuss it with you before and during the job than discover afterward that you were expecting something different.
Good communication helps me provide you with the best possible service.
Before I Arrive
I personally perform your carpet cleaning and work by myself. Because of this, I generally do not move large or heavy furniture.
You do not need to move your furniture to have your carpets cleaned. I can clean all accessible carpet and open areas around your furniture. However, if there are areas underneath furniture that you specifically want cleaned, it is best to have those items moved before I arrive.
I am happy to help move an occasional small or lightweight item when practical, but beds, dressers, entertainment centers, large couches, heavy tables and similar furniture should generally remain in place or be moved beforehand.
Please pick up clothing, toys, pet items, cords and other small objects from the areas you would like cleaned. The clearer the area is when I arrive, the more efficiently I can concentrate on cleaning your carpet.
If possible, please also provide reasonable parking access near the entrance I will be using. Because I clean with truck-mounted equipment, I will be running hoses from my vehicle into your home.
Should You Vacuum First?
I do not routinely vacuum the carpet before cleaning.
Pre-vacuuming is not required, but it is recommended and beneficial. Vacuuming removes loose dry soil, hair and debris before the wet-cleaning process begins and allows me to concentrate on the soil embedded in the carpet fibers.
If you are able to vacuum before I arrive, that's great. If not, it does not mean that I cannot clean your carpet.
My Carpet Cleaning Process
I use professional truck-mounted hot-water extraction equipment.
I pre-treat the carpeted areas with a professional-grade cleaning solution designed to loosen and suspend soil from the carpet fibers. I then thoroughly rinse and extract the carpet using hot water.
This process removes the cleaning solution along with the suspended soil rather than intentionally leaving cleaning products behind in your carpet.
Drying Time
Your carpet will normally be damp to the touch when I finish. This is expected with hot-water extraction.
Most carpets dry progressively throughout the day under normal conditions, although drying time varies depending on the type of carpet, weather, indoor humidity, airflow and other conditions.
Air movement is one of the best ways to speed drying. Ceiling fans and portable fans are very helpful. On pleasant, dry days, opening windows can provide excellent airflow. During hot weather, air conditioning works very well because it circulates the air and helps remove humidity from inside your home.
Yes, Winter Is a Great Time to Clean Your Carpets
Contrary to a common misconception, winter is still a great time to have your carpets professionally cleaned in the Central Valley.
During cooler weather, simply turn on your home's heater and keep the air moving. Warm, circulating air helps moisture evaporate from the carpet. Ceiling fans or portable fans can help even more.
There is no need to wait until spring or summer to have your carpets cleaned. With normal indoor heat and good airflow, carpet cleaning can be performed successfully year-round.
Spots, Stains & What Cleaning Can—and Cannot—Do
After years of cleaning carpet, I can usually give you a good idea of how a particular spot or stain is likely to respond. However, the reality is that you never know with absolute certainty whether every stain will come out until you go through the cleaning process.
There is also an important difference between soil and permanent discoloration.
Cleaning removes soil. It cannot restore color that has been permanently altered or repair a carpet fiber that has been physically damaged. Bleach, dyes, certain medications and chemicals, among other substances, can permanently change the carpet's color.
Some stains may improve dramatically without disappearing completely, while others that initially look difficult may come out beautifully.
Every carpet is different.
Why Can a Spot Come Back After Cleaning?
Occasionally, a spot that appeared to be gone immediately after cleaning can become visible again as the carpet dries. This is commonly referred to as wicking.
A spill may have penetrated beyond the surface carpet fibers and into the backing of the carpet. As the carpet dries, some of that material can migrate back toward the surface.
A spot reappearing does not necessarily mean that the carpet wasn't thoroughly cleaned. It may indicate that contamination remains deeper than the carpet fibers themselves.
If you notice something after the carpet has completely dried that concerns you, please contact me.
Pet Stains & Odors
Please let me know before cleaning if pet urine or other odor issues are a concern.
Normal deep carpet cleaning is primarily designed to remove soil from the carpet fibers. While cleaning alone may improve some odors, standard carpet cleaning does not necessarily solve an odor problem.
Pet odor problems often require specific professional treatment products in addition to normal carpet cleaning. I offer topical pet treatments using professional products when appropriate.
The effectiveness of any pet treatment depends greatly on the amount, age and location of the contamination. Pet urine limited primarily to the carpet fibers is very different from repeated contamination that has penetrated through the carpet and into the backing, padding or even the subfloor.
For this reason, I cannot guarantee complete pet stain or odor removal in every situation.
Please point out known pet problem areas before I begin. The more information you can give me, the better I can determine how those areas should be treated.
Traffic Lanes, Wear & Carpet Condition
One of the biggest misconceptions about carpet cleaning is that every dark or discolored traffic lane is simply dirt.
Sometimes it is dirt. Sometimes it is a combination of soil and physical wear.
Cleaning can remove soil, but cleaning cannot reverse wear.
As carpet is repeatedly walked on, the fibers can become scratched, crushed, distorted and worn. Those worn fibers can reflect light differently than the carpet surrounding them. As a result, a heavily traveled area may continue to look different even after a significant amount of soil has been removed.
This is also why two carpets can respond very differently to professional cleaning.
I have cleaned extremely dirty carpet that responded beautifully and looked dramatically different when finished. I have also cleaned carpet that appeared only moderately soiled but did not show the same dramatic improvement because of its age, construction, fiber type or level of wear.
The original price of the carpet does not necessarily determine how well it will clean or how well it will resist visible wear over time.
My job is to get your carpet as clean as reasonably possible while working within the condition of the carpet I have in front of me.
Pets During Your Appointment
For everyone's safety, please make arrangements to keep pets secured and away from the areas being cleaned.
I will be going in and out of the home and will have hoses and equipment running through an entrance. Securing pets helps prevent them from getting outside and keeps both your pets and my equipment safe while I am working.
Final Walk-Through
Whenever possible, I strongly prefer that you be available at the completion of your cleaning for a final walk-through.
There is a very good reason for this.
It gives you an opportunity to inspect the carpet while my equipment is still set up and ready to go. If there is an area you would like me to take another look at, please tell me. If additional cleaning or touch-up is appropriate, it is much easier for me to address it while everything is still set up.
Being present also allows you to see the results of the cleaning and gives us an opportunity to discuss any areas where staining, wear, damage or other carpet conditions may remain.
My goal isn't simply to finish the cleaning and leave. I want you to have an opportunity to look at the work, ask questions and understand the results before I pack up my equipment.

One Last Thing: Every Carpet Is Different
Carpet cleaning can produce remarkable results, but every carpet has its own history.
Age, fiber type, construction, wear, previous spills, previous cleaning products, pet contamination, sun exposure and many other factors can affect the final appearance.
That's why I don't believe in making unrealistic promises about a carpet before I've cleaned it.
What I can promise is that I will use my experience, professional equipment and cleaning products to get the best reasonable result from the carpet in front of me.
If there is something that matters to you, tell me. If you have a question, ask me. Communication before, during and immediately after the cleaning is the best way for us to make sure we're both on the same page and that you are happy with the service you receive.
